Review

I really enjoyed Ash's and Sean's romance and am excited for this series. In Ash, we get an exhausted new father. His level of love, sleeplessness, and worry for his daughter really shines in this tale. Sean falls in love with Ash's dedication to his baby as well as to his lovely self.

They are both kind characters and the next door neighbors theme is really well done here.

Sean's friends and housemates promise excellent future books as does Ash's on line single gay dad support group.

We get a slow burn with lovely dates with baby in tow. It is a sweet and good and a lovely read. I treasure character driven low angst romance.

It is set in San Diego which I love. However, some of the details are just a tad off and that takes me out of the story in places. La Jolla is one of the most expensive places to live in the nation for example and I would like the nieghborhood would be more like Point Loma (still really pricey) or La Mesa (cute but inland).

Overall, a really pleasure time was had. When is the next one.

His Steady Heart by Nell Iris Review

His Steady Heart - Nell Iris

Ashley “Buck” Buchanan moved back home to take care of his sick mother when he was 22. That was the first time he met Pippin, the neglected 6-year-old boy next door. Pippin Olander is a ray of sunshine despite his emotionally lacking upbringing and works hard to make a better life for himself. Even though he’s fiercely self-sufficient, he learns to accept help from Buck, his rock and the only steady presence in his life.

Their friendship deepens and grows into something more as they spend time together. But when other people try to throw a wrench in the works, when Pippin’s independence is triggered, can Buck and Pippin trust in the love they’ve found?

Review

This is a really sweet romance between Pippin and Ashley who have been friends forever. Pippin's mom is pretty awful but Ashley or Buck is really kind.

The other characters in this book are cartoonish but the connection between the heroes is lovely and its a nice age gap romance. Nell Iris writes nice love stories but they always need to be longer. The in a full relationship part and the HEA could be more developed but its a nice read.

Fat Angie By e.E. Charlton-Trujillo $1.99!!

Fat Angie: Rebel Girl Revolution - E.E. Charlton-Trujillo

Her sister was captured in Iraq, she’s the resident laughingstock at school, and her therapist tells her to count instead of eat. Can a daring new girl in her life really change anything?

Angie is broken — by her can’t-be-bothered mother, by her high-school tormenters, and by being the only one who thinks her varsity-athlete-turned-war-hero sister is still alive. Hiding under a mountain of junk food hasn’t kept the pain (or the shouts of “crazy mad cow!”) away. Having failed to kill herself — in front of a gym full of kids — she’s back at high school just trying to make it through each day. That is, until the arrival of KC Romance, the kind of girl who doesn’t exist in Dryfalls, Ohio. A girl who is one hundred and ninety-nine percent wow! A girl who never sees her as Fat Angie, and who knows too well that the package doesn’t always match what’s inside. With an offbeat sensibility, mean girls to rival a horror classic, and characters both outrageous and touching, this darkly comic anti-romantic romance will appeal to anyone who likes entertaining and meaningful fiction.

The Bride Test (The Kiss Quotient, #2) by Helen Hoang 4 Star Review

The Bride Test - Helen Hoang

His family knows better - that his autism means he just processes emotions differently. When he steadfastly avoids relationships, his mother takes matters into her own hands and returns to Vietnam to find him the perfect bride.

As a mixed-race girl living in the slums of Ho Chi Minh City, Esme Tran has always felt out of place. When the opportunity arises to come to America and meet a potential husband, she can't turn it down. Seducing Khai, however, doesn't go as planned. She's hopelessly smitten with a man who's convinced he can never return her affection.

Review

I was charmed by Khai and Esme. I love all the families here.

Esme is lovely and brave. Watching her fall in love with Khai is great.

I love a marriage of connivence kind of plot and tie that in with a celebration of immigrants and I am in.

Esme has her own journey of finding her value and Khai's in finding his value as well around the depth of his emotions though they are processed differently than others.

Hoang does a good job in avoiding pitfalls in this story and the writing is crisp and engaging.

Why Do Dukes Fall in Love? - Megan Frampton

Why do dukes fall in love?

Michael, the Duke of Hadlow, has the liberty of enjoying an indiscretion . . . or several. But when it comes time for him to take a proper bride, he ultimately realizes he wants only one woman: Edwina Cheltam. He’d hired her as his secretary, only to quickly discover she was sensuous and intelligent.

They embark on a passionate affair, and when she breaks it off, he accepts her decision as the logical one . . . but only at first. Then he decides to pursue her.

Michael is brilliant, single-minded, and utterly indifferent to being the talk of the ton. It’s even said his only true friend is his dog. Edwina had begged him to marry someone appropriate–—someone aristocratic . . . someone high-born . . . someone else. But the only thing more persuasive than a duke intent on seduction is one who has fallen irrevocably in love.

Hurts to Love You by Alisha Rai 1.99!!

Hurts to Love You - Alisha Rai

Well-behaved women don’t lust after men who love to misbehave.

Heiress Evangeline Chandler knows how to keep a secret . . . like her life-long crush on the tattooed hottie who just happens to be her big brother’s friend. She’s a Chandler, after all, and Chandlers don’t hook up with the help. Then again, they also don’t disobey their fathers and quit their respectable jobs, so good-girl rules may no longer apply.

Gabriel Hunter hides the pain of his past behind a smile, but he can’t hide his sudden attraction to his friend’s sheltered little sister. Eve is far too sweet to accept anything less than forever and there’s no chance of a future between the son of a housekeeper and the town’s resident princess.

When a wedding party forces Eve and Gabe into tight quarters, keeping their hands off each other will be as hard as keeping their clothes on. The need that draws them together is stronger than the forces that should shove them apart . . . but their sparks may not survive the explosion when long-buried secrets are finally unearthed.

Wolf Rain by Nalini Singh 5 Star Review!!

Wolf Rain - Nalini Singh

Excellent. Just Excellent.

Nalini Singh never disappoints. This is an amazing joyful action packed romance. The world building is off the hook which is stunning this deep into a series. I am so excited each time a new book comes out. I read it right away.

I love this universe and I love these characters.

In Wolf Rain, we get Alexie and Memory. We get a wolf dealing with genetics that may make it impossible to have a mate and Memory is finding her own strength and her talent.

Watching them falling in like and love is a delight. Sexy too. So sexy.

There is such heat and connection between them.

The world expands here too with Memory Psy gifts. We get a wonderful plot that is perfect balance with the love story.

I also want to call out an amazing moment in the book of friendship and womanhood and representation.

Singh's books have been a shining light for decades for diversity in characters. Diversity of all kinds.

Memory is of African decent. Many of Singh's characters have multi racial backgrounds.
One of the ways Memory's captor controls her is by forcing her to straighten her hair. Memory resist his control over her body. When she get free, her hair is a snarl. She wants it natural. Another heroine helps her get those curls on point.

This reminds me of the hours I spent growing up chatting with my friends while her mom put her braids in. The perfection of this moment to be so seen and to know the value of saying how we look is everything.

So, thank you Nalini Singh for masterful journey with surprises and delights of every kind.
