Blue Collared: Best Working Class Heroes of Contemporary Romance

I would love more romances where heroines don't need to be rescued in the physical, emotional, or any other sense. I would like more romances where each lead wants to partnered instead.

So, billionaires, tycoons, kings kingpins, cops (and other professional rescuers) while very enjoyable aren't always what I am looking to read.

Sometimes, often in fact, I just want some regular folk. Middle Class and Working Class people who are extraordinary in who they are but not necessarily what they are.

Blue Collar heroes tend to give me a good chance at this kind of romance. However, there is a startling amount of inheritance padding even here or hidden money.

Romance novels featuring working class heroes who exist within the confines of monetary and other resources limits allow a love story to look toward the romance of the ordinary life where there are cost limits.

For me, the appeal of a working class/ middle class hero is that a realistic working life needs to be balanced with the relationship. I also enjoy the very different set of skills that come from doing work that is taken for granted by society and often physically demanding.

For me, I guess working class/middle class is really code for less fantasy in my romance and more everyday conflicts and everyday glorious love.

So, here are some of my favorite working class blokes, in no particular order

 1. Geek with the Cat Tattoo (Cool Cats) by Theresa Weir --Emerson is an artist who works in a music shop and is apprenticing  to make guitars.

2. In the Clear (Winter Rescue) by Tamara Morgan Fletcher sells cars.

3. After Hours: (InterMix) by Cara McKenna  Kelly works as an orderly.

4, How to Misbehave: A Novella: Camelot Series by Ruthie Knox, Tony is a contractor.

5. Lady Luck (Colorado Mountain) by Kristen Ashley Ty is a mechanic (okay he gambles really well too but there is the best conversation in this book about budgeting.)

6. Undeniably Yours (The Kowalskis) by Shannon Stacey Kevin owns a bar.

7. Crazy for You by Jennifer Crusie Nick is a mechanic.

8. Rio Grande Wedding by Ruth Wind  Alejandro, a recent immigrant

9.  One Christmas Knight by  Kathleen Creighton Jimmy Joe is a trucker.

10. A Needful Heart (Contemporary Romance) by J.M. Madden Matt, the carpenter.

Do you have a favorite? I would love some recommendations as always!
