First Nation Love: Best Contemporary Native American Romance Novels
In some romance novels, the character's culture is deeply embedded in the story and in others it is done with a lighter touch. Love stories that twine the dominant cultures with those that are less so or remain entirely in the subculture have a zest to them that allows for a more complex romance.
Romance novels featuring Native people have this element in spades.
However, Historical Native American Romances tend to have horrid titles coupled with stereotypical plots and images of the Noble Savage that add salt to a wound that has never healed in the face of genocide. I hunt hard for historical books with indigenous characters that heal instead of harm but that is another post...
Too often, First Nation people are thought of only in historical terms and not a part of this world.
Here are of my favorite Romances that have Native American heroes and heroines living contemporary times and falling in love.
1. The Sharing Spoon by Kathleen Eagle
2. Taylor's Temptation by Suzanne Brockmann
3. Rock Chick Renegade (Rock Chick, #4) by Kristen Ashley
4. Leader of the Pack by Justine Davis
5. Comanche Vow by Sheri Whitefeather
6. Outlaw and Love Song For A Raven by Elizabeth Lowell
7. Promise Canyon by Robyn Carr
8. Tallchief by Sharon Sala
9. Rainsinger and Beautiful Stranger by Ruth Wind
10. Mackenzie's Legacy by Linda Howard
11.Naked Edge (An I-Team Novel) by Pamala Clare
